- Dr. Albert Wakefield, who was a surgeon on the staff of William of Orange and apparently dressed a wound William received just prior to the Battle of the Boyne. He dressed the wound of William on July 1,1690.In return for his services, he was given an estate near the battlefield of Aughrim, after the campaign. Albert had one son, Robert, who had 3 sons, Robert, Mathew, and Andrew. Robert in turn had 4 sons, David, Robert, Gilbert, and Samuel. These sons apparently took part in some plot to overthrow Catholic rule in Ireland, and according to the story I've inherited, Robert was beheaded, Gilbert was imprisoned for life, and Samuel escaped to Scotland. Meanwhile, our ancestor, David escaped to America, By being hidden by his wife Mary Wade "in a hogshead of clothing." They took a ship, and did not reveal David's presence to the Sea Captain until they were 3 days out to sea.
