- Joe H. Mills was born Feb. 12, 1919 near Eufaula, Oklahoma. He made the move to Texas with the family and settled in Corpus Christi, Texas. After his parents died in 1928 and 1929, he lived with different families of his brothers and sisters. In 1940 he joined the robstown National Guard. He then enlisted in the army and was sent to Tngland to serve. Joe had married Lillie Selcer of Corpus Christi, Texas and he was former employee at the Gulf Coast Poultry and Egg Co. He was 25 years old at the time of his death. This is what the newspaper printed: AIR RAID CASUALTY.......Cpl. Joe H. Mills formerly of Corpus Christi and Robstown, for whom funeral services were held Ednesday afternoon, was wounded during an air raid in Dover, England where he had been stationed for seven months. He was returned to the states and died June 28, 1944 in an Atlantic City, N.J. Army general hospital. Mills was a member of Robstown's National Guard Co. G when it was moblized in 1940 but was later transferred to another division.
