  Notes	It was thought he was James Monroe Cloud's brother, but it's not possible for them to be full brothers, if they are related.  James Monroe Cloud was not Cherokee at all, but Samuel Cloud who had children with Lucy Tadpole was at least part Cherokee because all of the children with Lucy are documented as being over 1/2 Cherokee, and Samuel's listed on the 1883 Census as a Citizen by Blood. - Samuel Cloud was in Corp, Co I, 3 Reg I.T. Indian Home Guards, Kans Inf. The company muster roll show he joined July 11, 1862 at Flat Rock, Cherokee Nation for a period of three (3) years. Samuel Cloud left the army and was listed as deserter on the October 27, 1864 It is believed he went home because his wife Rachel was ill (child birth) or had died.  He  returned from desertion under the president's proclamation of March 10, 1865 on April 24, 1865 and received an honorable discharge on May 31, 1865. He was given an invalid pension because he contracted a disease of the eyes from which he never wholly recovered.  He was treated during his service by regiment surgeons and at home by two aged women Indian doctors. His Indian name was oo-la-gah.
