The Bolivar Herald
Comfort Jane Holstein was born in Hancock County, Tenn. March 23, 1832. She died at the home of her son-in-law John Burleson, Polk county, Missouri, July 17, 1907 at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 24 days. She had been twice married. Her first husbands name was Mills. By this union was given five children, 4 boys and 1 girl. Her second husband was named Holstein, who was one of the early settlers of Polk county and died 17 years ago at the old home south of Bolivar. To this union was given two children, one boy and one girl.
She professed religion at the early age of 15 years and joined the Baptist Church. And later in life united with the Christian Church and lived a devoted christian to the day of her death and died happy in a Saviors love. Her last words were "My Blessed Savior." She called her children and grand-children around and told them she was going to leave them and entreated all to meet her in Heaven. She told them to so live that when death came they would be ready, the burden of her heart seemed to be for those around her to be ready when the Master calls.
Four of her children were permitted to be with her in the last hour upon earth. Her oldest son arrived just after her spirit had taken it's flight to the City of Light. We can think of no name on earth so sweet as Mother, the first we learn to lisp in infancy, the last we love to speak on earth, and the first we hope to greet in Heaven. When in childhood we took our sorrows to Mother, she kissed them all away and in later years, we sought her words of advice which was always freely given, and at the close of life she went away saying "Goodbye, but not forever," with a sweet smile on her face, she fell asleep in Jesus. At her request, the writer conducted the funeral services at old Mt. Gilead church on July 18. after which we laid her body in the grave to await the final call at the last day.
Dear Children although it was the first time we ever met you and your Mother, we hope we shall not be Strangers in Heaven.
