The Leslie home site was in South Carolina until an eleven mile strip of land in which it was situated was ceded to North Carolina, a boundary change which was initiated by a survey in 1771. It appears that Samuel Leslie remained in the area until sometime after 1800 before he started the first step in his migrations to live with his children. "Samuel Lessley and wife purchased 175 acres of land from Robert Caldwell and wife Margaret, in 1767. This land was located on the north side of the Wax haw Creek and being about two miles northeast of James Crawford, but just across the line in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
