Notes - The general consensus that her name was Nancy Renfro came from information based on the fact that Nancy Renfro's family lived in Culleoka near John and Nancy Kennedy. When William Renfro wrote his will he named his daughter Nancy who married Mr. Kennedy. The will does not say John Kennedy but everyone just assumed that is who he was referring to. A few years ago, Rick Gray got in contact with a cousin in Texas who had an old family Bible. She told him that on the inside of the Bible her grand-aunt had written that her grandmother's name was Nancy McDonnell and her grandfather was John Kennedy. This information was told to her by her mother, Sarah Rebecca Kennedy. Sarah was the granddaughter of John and Nancy. After that Rick began searching more into it. He found another grandson who filed a Confederate pension and wrote that his grandmother's name was Margaret McDonald. I thought he was completely wrong until I found his journal in Franklin, Tennessee in the property of the new owners of his home. In the journal he writes that his mother said her name was Margaret but was called Nancy. So we had McDonnell and McDonald referenced as her last name. Rick was finally able to locate the marriage record for John and Nancy in Garrard County, Ky where John came from. It was for Nov 6, 1805 and was for John Kennedy to Nancy McDaniel. As Rick looked into it more, he found out that the McDaniel and McDonald names were interchanged a lot in that day. There were some McDonald's in the Giles County area that used McDaniel on some records and McDonald on others. He believes they were probably tied to Nancy but has not made the connection yet.
