HINTON H. ATKINSON was born in Johnston County, North Carolina, July 12, 1831 and his father, Carey, was born in the same county in 1791.The father was a farmer, served in the War of 1812 and died in his native country in 1844. His wife Willey O'Neal was born in Johnston county, North Carolina in 1799 and died in 1864. She bore her husband eight children of whom the subject of this sketch is the fifth.

DEATH: Will of Cary Atkinson:
Wife Willie Atkinson 1,095 ac. land where I now live until eldest son Ruffin becomes 21, then to be divided between sons Ruffin Atkinson, Harris Atkinson, William Atkinson and Jasper Atkinson. Jasper to recieve portion where wife now lives, at her death or marriage; negro Clawey during widowhood or natural life; farm implements.
Daughter Lucinda Renfro - Bed and furniture; livestock.

Sons to have a horse, saddle and bridle as they come of age. Exec to collect monies due, sell tract of land on SS of Little River joining lands of Hopson O'Neal 163 ac. and negro man Jacob. These are the lineal decendants of Carey & Willie Hinton Atkinson, as best I can remember: Millie, Sinda, Jane, & Kate/Catherine, Harris, William/Bill, Ruffin, & Jasper 4 sons & 4 daughters.
Millie married ?? Glover and had three sons, possibly more: Allison, James and Harris Glover. There were three daughters: Linda m. James Stott & Ann m. Nathan Stott.
Sinda m. Perry Renfrow who went west to Louisiana, Arkansas or Texas.
Jane m. Branch High and has descendants in Wilson County.
Kate/Catherine m. Burt Lowry.
Harris m. Caroline Bailey and moved near to Sherman, Texas. He had a family of boys & girls but I don't recall their names.
Bill/William Atkinson died single.
Ruffin Atkinson m. Margaret Stewart and had two children; Claudie & Gustavous..
Jasper Atkinson m. Catherine/Kate Whitley of whom the following children were born:
Alphonzo Harris Atkinson m. Billie Sullivan, no children; Adolphus Atkinson m. Mollie Barham and had births: Norine, Robena, Zilpha, Amanda, Claudia, Mandie, Lorna, Joseph Stanley, Hardy Harris, Lois May, Mavis, Mary Edna, Eleanor Rachel, Gloria Marguerite & an infant boy never named. A.D. Atkinson 22 Mar. 1960.
