Bill Jay of Hulett, Wyoming , passed along many interesting stories of the Jay family and their life on the homestead near Medicine Creek, Wyoming, which is about twenty miles north of Hulett.  Before moving his family to Crook County in 1906, William Jay made three cattle drives to the area.  He liked the country so much that he decided to make it his permanent home.  The journey from Paris Texas to Wyoming took sixty six days with the family traveling in two wagons.  Ida drove one of them. Also making the trip were some horses, one milk cow, and one old hen that rode in a box on the side of the wagon.  Along the way, the hen layed eggs.  The box was said to be full when the family arrived.  "Grandad Jay said Medicine Creek looked good to him, so they settled there."  Bill also says that the two wagons are still on the place, but about to fall apart. Bill relates that before winter would set in, William would take a team and wagon to Belle Fourche, South Dakota to load up on supplies to last the long season.  He would stay all night and return the next day. Bill Jay still owns the original homestead of his grandfather, William Jay.  Health problems have forced him to retire to live in town.
