Robert Clemmons - Tennessee Civil War Veterans Questionnaire about 1921
At the time of the interview, RP Clemmons was living at Bell Buckle, in Bedford County Tennessee, about 76 years old at present. He was born and served in the CSA from Rutherford County, Tennessee, enlisting in September 1863 in Alabama, in the 4th Tennessee Regiment under Colonel McLemore. He was a farmer before the war, as was his father. His father , Micajah Clemmons lived on about 250 acres of land with a value of $6,50 (?) They raised cattle, sheep and hogs and owned a mule, lived in a four room house, and owned 7 slaves; 1 man, 2 women, and 4 boys. Robert went to school at Cross Lane, in the area. School sessions lasted about 3 months at a time, he said. His father was born at Shelbyville in Bedford County, then lived in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, where he served as magistrate and tax overseer. His mother was Molly Pinkard. Her parents were Bailey and Mary Pinkard, who lived at Millersburg. Bailey Pinkard was originally from Virginia. Grandfather Clemmons was from Ireland, settling in Bedford County, Tennessee in the Shelbyville area. He died there.
