- Listed in the Spotsylvania Order Books 1724-1730 under Major Lightfoot's Command. Commission granted July 9, 1722. Commissioned Captain 2 Sept.1729. Was named in his father's will. Capt. Bledsoe's will was probated 18 April 1770. Published in Culpepper County Will Book of 1749-1770. Was the first sheriff of Culpepper County taking the oath in 1722.
In the name of God, AMEN. I, William Bledsoe, of the parish of Brumfieldand county of Culpepper, being in perfect health and sound mind and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield to death when it pleases God to call, I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following:
My soul I recommend to God Almighty who gave it to me trusting in the merits of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and that at the resurrection I shall rise again through His merits. My body I recommend to the earth to be bound in a decent manner at the discretion of my Executor's here afternamed.
As to my worldly goods with which it has pleased God to bless me with I give and bestow in manner following.
I lend to my loving wife Elizabeth all my estate both real and personal except such estate as has already been given out to my children of which you have possession during their natural life and after her decease in such manner as I shall hereafter direct.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son George Bledsoe twenty pounds current money to be raised out of my estate after my wife's death to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Aaron's lawful begotten children, one Negro wench named Jean and all her children; Cato, Esther, and Jack and all the issue of the said Jean, Cato, Esther and Jack. The said Jean,Cato, Esther, and Jack now being in the possession of my said son Aaron Bledsoe: and the Jean, Cato, Esther and Jack and all the issue of the same I here by give to the children of said son Aaron and their heirs, administrators and assigns forever
ITEM: I give and bequeath to George Wetherall and Millie Wetherall oneNegro wench named Lucy now in the possession of the said George Wetherall, with the issue of the said Lucy to , the said George, his wife Millie Wetherall, their heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to Ambrose Powell and Mary his wife one Negro wench now in the pos session of said Ambrose Powell with the issue of the said Esther to them, the said Ambrose P owell, their heirs and assigns forever.
ITEM: I give to my son John Bledsoe one Negro man named Jack, to him and to his heirs and assigns forever, the said Jack being the son of Nan and now in the possession of the said John Bledsoe.
ITEM: I bequeath to my son William Bledsoe one Negro wench named Rachel and her child, with the further issue of the said Rachel to him, his heirs and assigns forever the said Rachel now being in the possession of William Bledsoe.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to George and Millie Wetherall one feather bed and furniture to their assigns forever as such belong to my estate at my decease.
ITEM: I bequeath to my son Aaron Bledsoe one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever such as shall belong to the estate at my decease.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Cave one shilling in full her part of my estate she having already received her part.
ITEM: I bequeath to my son Joseph Bledsoe one shilling he having formerly received a proportional part of my estate.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my several grandchildren of Moses Bledsoe, my deceased son, one shilling each, my son Moses having received his proportional part of my estate.
ITEM: I give and bequeath to my loving children George, John, William,Mary Powell, Millie We therall, Aaron Bledsoe and Mumford Stevens all my estate after my wife's decease to be equally divided between the seven above mentioned and do hereby declare them to be lawful heirs other ways that their respective legacies already given.
ITEM: I constitute and appoint George Wetherall executor of this, my last will and testament .
AND LASTLY I do hereby revoke and disannul all former wills by me made and do hereby declare this to be my last will and testament as witness my hand and seal this 27th day of December 1769.

At a court held for the county of Culpepper on Thursday the 19th day ofApril 1770, the written last will and testament of William Bledsoe, dec.was exhibited to the court by George We the rall, Gent. the executor therein named and was proved by the oath of Benjamin Powell a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded the said executor came into court and refused to take the burden of the execution thereof and on the motion ofElizabeth Bledsoe, widow and relict of the said deceased, certificate is granted to her for obtaining letters of administration the will annexed is granted for her she having sworn to the same and given bond and security according to the law.
