* This researcher is confused by the 1920 census and Cora (Gunning) Fasel's death certificate.
- Cora's death certificate says she died in Feb. 1919, so how can she be on the Jan. 1920 census? The death certificate records her death as Feby. 1919, but the decade "191" portion is printed. Could she have actually died in 1920?
- Charles Gunning in the 1920 census must be her son.
- A Charles Gunning Fasel is recorded in TX birth records born the exact same day and place as the death certificate shows for John Charles Gunning.
- John Charles Gunning's death certificate lists James F. & Cora Gunning as his parents.
- The 1920 census is confusing because, among other things, Cora's age is 13; Charles has the same birth places for parents as Cora. Charles' relationship to the HOH is "S" and the enumerator never uses that abbreviation anywhere else, always writing out "son".

* Cora's daughter-in-law, Fern Juanita (Edwards) Gunning was working for Fasel Optical when she died in 1944. (In 1936 Dallas directory is a J.A. Fasel with Reliable Optical Co., located in room 206 of the Burt Building at Patterson Ave, S.W. corner North Ervay.) (In 1937 Dallas directory is listed: Eliz. A. Fasel (wid H C) residence 827 S. Willomet Ave, and Jas. A. Fasel of Reliable Optical, optometrist, of the same residence.) (In 1945-46 Dallas directory is Fasel Optical Co (Hardin M Wilson) optom 1928 Main. Another 1945-46 entry lists M. Naomi Martin as receptionist for Fasel Optical Co. Listed as Fasel Optical at 1928 Main again in 1947-48 directory.) (This may be James Arthur Fasel, b. Mar. 22, 1894, WW-I enlistment in Dallas where his occupation is "Mfg. Optician" for F.A. Hardy Optical Co and has wife and child (dated June 5, 1917), TX who is 35 and living with Mary Fasel, 30, as a lodger on 1920 Dallas census.)

Here is what the evidence, though some contradictory, implies:
Cora was 23 in the 1920 census, not 13. Charles Gunning is a grandson of John and Minnie Gunning, not a son. Cora is single because Mr. Fasel died, abandoned or divorced her.
