  • Notes 
    • Dempsey and Elizabeth (Kerr) Seybold, natives of Pennsylvania, were of German and Irish descent.  They emigrated from Kentucky to Indiana in 1818, locating in Parke county, entering a quarter section of land, on which Dempsey soon established a trading post and store.  He was a soldier in the War of 1812, a Whig in politics, and a man of industry and integrity.  He died in the month of June, 1835, a victim of cholera, aged 44 years, and at the time of his death was probate judge of the county.
