Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Edward Whittington was born circa 1726 (son of Francis Whittington, Jr., son of John Whittington and Elizabeth Whittington); died Y.

    Notes:

    -
Edwards parents are not certain, though John Whittington & Elizabeth Whittington have been offered as has been Francis Whittington Jr.  The Francis Whittington Jr. is problematic due to his estimated age.  Francis Sr. was b. ca 1620 and Edward about 1726.  There is 106 years between the alleged grandfather and grandson, which is possible if Francis Jr. and Edward were born to their parents in their later years.
An Edward Whittington is recorded to have received 200 acres of land in the Cheraw District of South Carolina, on the N.E. side of the Pee Dee, on July 4th, 1791 ("Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grants in South Carolina" compiled by Tony Draine and John Skinner, pp. 55-57).

Edward married Penelope Green circa 1747, Albemarle county, Va ?. Penelope (daughter of Burwell Green and Ann Bartholomew) was born circa 1725; died Bef Oct 05, 1773, ? South Carolina, USA. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Penelope Green was born circa 1725 (daughter of Burwell Green and Ann Bartholomew); died Bef Oct 05, 1773, ? South Carolina, USA.

Generation: 4

  1. 8.  John Whittington was born circa 1698, Queen Ann county, Maryland, USA; died , Albemarle county, Virginia, USA.

    Notes:

Some sources say his father was Smart Whittington who, according to others, died without issue.  Others show his parents to be William Whittington III and Elizabeth Taylor.
Some say he married Elizabeth Whittington, the daughter of Joshua Whittington and Elizabeth Nairne.  This is problematic in that Joshua Whittington & Elizabeth Nairne married circa 1753, both being born circa 1715 and dying circa 1764 and 1788, respectively.  Their daughter, Elizabeth Whittington, was born circa 1760.  This John Whittington married his Elizabeth Whittington in 1723, when Joshua Whittington and Elizabeth Nairne were only 8 years old and some 37 years prior to their daughter Elizabeth's birth!

John married Elizabeth Whittington Jun 20, 1723, Albemarle county, Virginia, USA. Elizabeth (daughter of William Whittington, III and Elizabeth "Betty" Taylor) was born circa 1703, Virginia, USA; died , Albemarle county, Virginia, USA. [Group Sheet]
