Martin Cloud's Will of Edgefield Co., SC

Cloud Wills:   A new message, "Martin Cloud's Will of Edgefield Co., S. C.," was posted by Gail Manac <manac@planttel.net> on Sat, 13 Mar 1999.  Written June 22, 1793, probated January 17, 1806.

In the Name of God amen. I Martin Cloud of the county of Edgefield ? do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following Viz I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Edith Cloud one feather bed and furniture one tea kettle and coffee ? and all my ? ? ? ? plates and spoons and the ? ? ? ? against John Murray for six pounds in ? ? .
Secondly I give and bequeath unto my four children Anna, Sarah, Mary and James, one negroe girl name Beck(?) together with here future ? ? and one horse named Dick and ten head of cattle; and two feather beds and furniture, (to them and their heirs forever to be equally divided) and also my other furniture not heretofore bequeath unto my loving wife And I hereby ? and appoint Edward Vann my wife's father guardian of my above said children ? ? and educate at his designation and pay the ? of the above bequeath property for which ? I leave the said property in the hands of said Edward Vann and lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my ? and good friends said Edward Vann, William Hardin and Joseph Vann excetors to this my last will and testament.

Know all men by these presants that I Martin Cloud of the state of South Carolina and Edgefield County hath bargained sold and delivered unto Edward Vann Senr of the state and county of one said negro wench named Beck one brown bay hors eleven head of cattle two feather beds and furniture one chest and one ? and in consideration of one hundred and ten pounds paid in hand for which I do warrant and defend from all saw full reight or claim whatsoever in witness where of I have set my hand

Personally appeared before me Robert Mosely who being duly sworn do make oath and say he was present and saw Martin Cloud sign publish and deliver the written to be his last will and testament and that the said Martin Cloud was then of sound and disposing mind and memory to the best of the deponants knowledge and belief and that he saw Henry Van Jur sign hes name as a witness thereto at the request of the testater and at the same time qualified Edward Vann Executor given under my hand at my office ? January 1806

NOTES: There are question marks in place of words. Words were covered up by black squares. Could have been small squares of tape. Also Henry's last name looks different on each document. It could be Van (one n) and one place looks like Ware. Gail.
