Copyright note: No copyright marking or other indication of copyright has been found. It has been the understanding of those processing this book for viewing on the Internet that the authors had the intention of informing as many people as possible about "the Cloud Family". We believe that this posting is consistent with that goal and that such a posting would be fulfilling the author's desires. There is an argument that, unless extended by registration (not found in listings) or statute, a copyright on this material would probably have expired by 1990. However, this interpretation has been questioned, and the text has been removed. Anyone having comments as to whether this text belongs in the public domain should contact the web page host or the contributor as soon as possible.
Accuracy/Errors/Misinformation: There is a vast amount of information in this text, and a number of serious researchers have identified significant errors in it. Anyone using that text must exercise his/her own judgement as to what to accept as fact and what to treat as conjecture or misinterpretation of data.
This volume is a second and revised edition of the CLOUD FAMILY, issued in 1961. Many revisions and additions have been made. Our thanks go to the families who have shown interest in this very interesting family, and who have assisted in the work.
The direct line descent to the son of the compilers has been indicated throughout, and a chart of this line given at the beginning of the work, as a guide to others in preparing such a line of descent for themse1ves. The genealogical numbering in the book begins with the first generation in this country-- William Cloud [l] Any individuals ancestry can be traced by going back from one number to another to William . The descendants of an individual can be worked out in the same way by studying his numbered issue, and theirs on through the line, or lines, of interest.
P1ease note that the spe1lings of names in early records was somewhat phonetic, and that several spellings of the same name may be found. Also spellings in old documents may have been copied incorrectly, or they may be indecipherab1e in some cases today. A certain amount of understanding must be exercised in such cases.
In some instances, fami1ies are included that have not yet been fully authenticated. It is hoped that someone may present further records or proofs to assist these families.
