• Notes

  -     Edwards parents are not certain, though John Whittington & Elizabeth Whittington have been offered as has been Francis Whittington Jr.  The Francis Whittington Jr. is problematic due to his estimated age.  Francis Sr. was b. ca 1620 and Edward about 1726.  There is 106 years between the alleged grandfather and grandson, which is possible if Francis Jr. and Edward were born to their parents in their later years.     An Edward Whittington is recorded to have received 200 acres of land in the Cheraw District of South Carolina, on the N.E. side of the Pee Dee, on July 4th, 1791 ("Revolutionary War Bounty Land Grants in South Carolina" compiled by Tony Draine and John Skinner, pp. 55-57).
