          DAR Index for Patriots lists Richard, b 1-15-1753, d 5-14-1835, MS m Polly (___) LT. SC PNSR.
          He entered service during 1775 in the Northeast St. David's Parish Volunteer Company under Capt Robert Lide and then in 1778/9 under Capt. Robert Lloyd with Col. William Hicks.  After other tours with Capt. Tristram Thomas and Col. Simmons and with Capt. Moses Pearson and Col. Benton, he served with Gen. Marion as Lieutenant.  He was in the battle at Coosawhatchie Bridge.  In South Carolina Continental Line.  He received a pension for his service, # W535, and a Bounty Land Warranty # 265973-160-55.  After the war, he went to Hancock County, Georgia and then on to Mississippi in 1805.
          Below received from Ronald McClendon rmcclend-at-highfiber.com>, 5712 Sweetwater, N.W., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87120 on November 22, 1998 :
          "Note:  Richard married the daughter of his brother, Cornelius. Richard married his first wife in South Carolina.  This may be the Richard Whittington who owned land adjacent to land granted to Isom Ellis, August 31, 1775, and conveyed to a Powney 22 & 23 June, 1775. This land was described as being "NE side Pee Dee near Westfield's bluff on three Bays known as Darby's sandhill & Scotts bays. After the death of his first wife, Richard moved to Georgia where he married his brother, Cornelius Whittington's' daughter, Mary Whittington.
