Obituary:
DANIEL W. CLOUD DEAD
Daniel WELLINGTON Cloud, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cloud, was born April 23, 1834, and departed this life after a long illness, January 13, 1924. He was born in Kentucky and came in early life to Missouri and has long been a resident of Bates County. He was married to Katherine Hickman April 23, 1855. To this union seven children were born: four having gone before, and the three remaining are: P.T. Cloud, San Pedro, California; J.A. Cloud, Tucson Arizona; and Elva Cloud of Arlington California. Mrs. Katherine Cloud died in 1880.
He was married a second time to Catherine E. (Brown) Owen, December 22, 1881. To this union was born one child, Leo, who died at the age of one year. Mr. Cloud had been a Free Mason for many years and at his death was a member of Crescent Hill Lodge No. ?? of Adrian Mo., which lodge conducted his burial service.
He was converted at sixteen and joined a Baptist church and at the time of his death was a deacon in the Altona Baptist church where his funeral was held. Burial in the Altona cemetery.
Of our Brother Cloud we shall miss him, but he leaves us a heritage of a long life of honesty, simplicity, fidelity and uprightness before God and man. He met his brethren on the level, lived by the plumb and parted on the square.
He was conservative in money, thought and deed, a much needed lesson by this spendthrift, thoughtless and criminal age. A good man has gone; though he suffered intensely, as usual, he was patient and uncomplaining. He leaves two sons, one daughter, his aged, frail and faithful companion and other relatives and friends.
