- Death certificate: Cessar Hebert, widowed; parents: Zenon Hebert (LA) & Eliza Trahan (LA); occupation: timberman; informant: Miss Hildebrand, Beaumont.
- He was of French descent, the fourth of six children. He came to Texas in 1859 to seek his fortune. He signed the post-Civil War "Amnesty Oath" in Beaumont Texas in December 1865.
Amnesty Oath (dated DEC 4, 1865), sworn at Beaumont, Texas: "I, Cezasre Ebare, do solemnly swear or affirm in the presence of Almighty God that I will hereafter faithfully defend the Constitution...." (Document shows he was age 29, was 5'10" tall, had dark hair, blue eyes, and light complexion, and his occupation was farmer. He would have been born in 1836.)
In 1867, he signed another oath disavowing involvement in the "rebellion" (the Civil War). In this document, he indicates he has been in Texas 8 years.
Oath of loyalty (dated JUL 26, 1867) sworn in Jefferson County, Texas and signed by "Ceasr Hebert" (sic) "I, Ceasr Hebert, do solemnly swear, or affirm, in the presence of Almighty God, that I am a citizen of the State of Texas, that I have resided in said State for 8 years months (sic) next preceding this day, and now reside in the County of Jefferson...in said State... that I am twenty-one years old that I have not been disfranchised for participation in any rebellion or civil war against the United States, nor for felony committed against the laws of any of the united States; that I have never been a member of any state Legislature, nor held any executive or judicial office in any State, and afterwards engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, and given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof that I have never taken an oath as a member of Congress of the United States, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, and afterwards engaged in insurrection an rebellion against the United States, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof; that I will faithfully support the Constitution and obey the laws of the United States..."
Homestead Certificate No. 2469, dated NOV 25, 1889, to Cesar Hebert for land in West La, Meridian, Louisiana.
The 1870 Census of Jefferson County Texas shows him (Cese Ebar) as a laborer on C.E. Hillbrandt's farm, West of Port Arthur.
(Leathey Ann's brother, William, married Mary Pamela Hildebrandt of Jefferson County OCT 31 1877. Is this the same family? Did she introduce Cesar to her brother's widow, Leathey Ann?) In 1878, he did marry Leathey Ann.
In 1889, he went to Louisiana to claim the federal land grant awarded him "for actual Settlers on the public Domain".

February 4th 1884, Newton County "ordered by the Court that Mrs. L.A. Hebert be appointed Guardian of the Estate of Selmer, Nettie and John Seybold, minors" (Case No. 217). Warranty Deed (Newton County), dated FEB 4, 1892, showing P.S.C. Smith sold for $800 land in Orange, Texas to "L.A. Herbert, Selmer Whittington, Nettie McAllen, and John O. Seybold".
The property described as Lots 3 & 4, Block 22 of the Nathan Cordray Survey in Orange, Texas belonged to Leatha Ann Hebert and she paid the taxes. Caesar's name does not show up on the tax receipts. But in 1910 the tax bill is addressed, not to Mrs. L.A. Hebert, but to "the L.A. Hebert Est.", indicating Leatha Ann died about 1909.
Tax receipts dating from 1885 to 1924 for 40 acres of land in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, first paid by Cezar/Ceazar Hebert and then later by Lula Whittington.
