Pittsburgh, Feb. 27. -- Theodore N. Barnsdall, President of the Pittsburgh Oil and Gas Company and the Union Natural Gas Corporation, and for many years one of the most widely known oil and mining operators in the United States, died at his home here today in his sixty-seventh year.  He was born in Titusville, Penn., and began life as a poor young man in the oil fields.  He was said to be worth more than $15,000,000.
Mr. Barnsdall was the founder of the Kansas Natural Gas Company, and as a member of the Barnsdall Oil Company he held large oil properties in Oklahoma, California, and other Southwestern States."

Theodore Newton Barnsdall, was the largest independent oil producer of his times in the United States.  In addition to his business success, he was 6'5" and 250 pounds.  His relationship with Aline's mother was a stormy one.  He married the young music teacher just nine months before Aline's birth in 1882.  He later tried to divorce her.  When she refused, he proceeded to have a second child by another woman.  In 1904, he organized the Kansas Natural Gas Company.  In 1905, he was a partner in the founding of the Alaska-Pacific Railroad and terminal Company, formed to develop the anthracite coal deposits in Alaska.
