      Delia M. Ashby Kelly, 94, passed away on Feb. 15, 2007. She was born on Oct. 11, 1912, to William Francis Ashby and Ella California Ferrell Ashby in Belott, Texas, near Crockett.
      Delia was a survivor of the Great Depression thanks to the strength and grit of her parents which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She sacrificed a lot for her family to have an education, strong values, and everything ?just right.?
      She had traced her lineage to Gen. Turner Ashby, decorated hero of the Civil War; the Mexican ?Black Bean Death Lottery? on Texans prior to the Battle of the Alamo; and to officers in the French and Indian War.
      She attended Sam Houston Normal Institute and obtained her Master of Education Degree from Sam Houston State Teacher?s College. She taught elementary school in Glover (Houston County), Riverside and Aldine. She was a member of the local chapters of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
      Delia was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Wanda June Kelly; husband, J. Edgar Kelly; son-in-law, Thomas Frank Cloud III; brothers, Dobie and Jack Ashby; and sister, Lena Mae Beathard.
      She is survived by one sister, Jimmie Bratz of Elkhart; son, James E. Kelly, Jr. and wife Sally of Cypress; daughter, Jean E. Cloud of Huntsville; granddaughter, Marti Perkins and husband Clark of Dallas; granddaughter, Susan McGuire and husband Monte of Dallas; grandson, Jeff Cloud and wife Ginger of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandson, Joel Cloud and wife Christine of Columbus, Ohio; great grandchildren, Shelby and Joel Perkins, Amy Perkins Warren, Brendan and Regan McGuire, Haylee and Katie Cloud and Hayden and Lauren Cloud.
      Two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
      A special thank you goes to the nurses and staff at Ella Smither and the Lexington for their wonderful care.
      Services for Delia will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Bratz officiating. Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a church or charity of your choice.
