- He was in the Seminole Indian Wars before he came to Texas. He joined the families who went from the Mt. Meigs section to Texas.
He fought with Gen. Winfield Scott in the War with Mexico, enlisting May 16, 1846 at Brenham. He was honorably discharged at Vera Cruz, Mexico May 1, 1848 as a lieutenant. He served in the same company as his brother, Gabe Armstrong.
He was in ill health after the war and returned to live in Chappell Hill where he was in the mercantile business.
December 21, 1895, Margaret Armstrong, widow, then living in Chappell Hill, Tex. applied for a pension on account of the service of her husband, William Tucker Armstrong, in the Mexican War. In her application, she recounted his record in the Seminole Indian War, in Florida, as well as the Mexican War. She stated he was born in Georgia, March 15, 1814, and that they were married at Chappell Hill, Nov. 17, 1856, and that he died near Buckhorn, in Austin Co. Tex. on Feb. 7, 1887; and that he was about five feet and ten inches tall, with fair skin, dark hair and blue eyes. The application was granted. (Dept. of Archives, Wash, D. C.
