  Notes	He left the aeronautics and space business and moved into medical equipment electronics. As an engineer for the Ames Division of Miles Laboratories he invented and patented the "Glucometer". There was a machine in existence by that name that Ames owned but it didn't work. James invented the technology and mechanisms that made it work, using spectoscopy to read the reagent strips so diabetics could get an immediate, accurate reading of their blood sugar levels.
