    • Obituary:
CLOUD, Charles (Chuck) May 31, 1947-August 4, 2008 Charles (Chuck) Cloud left us at first light the morning of August 4, 2008 with his loving wife Carla by his side. A fitting time for a man who loved to see the sun rise over the water as he started each day's work in marine construction throughout the Bay Area. He fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and strived to have a meaningful life of sharing with his family and friends until the very end.
Chuck will be remembered for his wit and high energy. He dearly loved his family, friends, fishing, camping, riding his Harley, cooking, golf, astronomy and his job as a crane operator. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 3.
Chuck was born in Santa Cruz and raised in Vallejo where he attended high school. He was an apprentice welder at Mare Island Naval Shipyard before moving to Alaska for several years. Upon returning to California, he lived in Rohnert Park and owned a jewelry business. He later returned to work at Mare Island as a Structural Engineering Technician until becoming a crane operator in 1986.
He and Carla were married at the foot of Waimea Falls in Hawaii in 1989. They enjoyed many vacations and happy times with family and friends. He often talked about the good old times around the campfire, relating how he had come face to face with a bear in Alaska, skydived, climbed the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, caught marlin in Mexico and saw a volcano up close during a helicopter ride in Hawaii. Chuck was always up for new adventures. In 2004, Chuck and Carla took his daughter, Tami, and her family on a dinosaur dig with a paleontologist in Colorado.
He was loved very much and will be missed by his wife Carla; daughters Tami, Sandra and Jeannine of Washington state; eight grandchildren; his loving sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Daniel Byrne of Santa Rosa; sister Judith Metcalf of Petaluma; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Chuck asked to say "good bye, peace and love to all".
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Chuck's life at Open Door Christian Church, 16 5th St. in Petaluma on August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma or the cancer fund of your choice.
