"11th Regiment, Florida Infantry, Company A. Records show that John C. Cloud enlisted on Nov 8, 1862 with his father Daniel Cloud at Merritt's Bridge, Jackson County, Florida in the 2nd Florida Infantry Battalion, Company E. The record clearly shows him as John C. Cloud, not John R. or Ross Cloud. His birthday is listed as Jan 1, 1842.
Also, the 11th Regiment, Florida Infantry, Company A was not formed until June 1864, in Virginia which was formed from many other units one of which was the 2nd Florida Infantry Battalion, one being Company E. John C. Cloud was at the battle of Appomattox at the same time as his father Daniel. Daniel was captured at Harper's Farm, Virginia but I did not find any documents that John C. Cloud was captured.
It is easy to see how anyone could get these cousins confused. Why did John C. Cloud and his father Daniel Cloud join in Jackson County, Florida and not Decatur County, Georgia? Because I believe they moved to Jackson County, Florida in 1860 and that is why the family of Daniel J. Cloud can not be found on any census in 1860 in Georgia or Florida."
