      WEST COLUMBIA ? Robert "Bob" K. Moxon, M.D. died on Wednesday, January 2
      8, 2015 at age 96.
      Dr. Moxon was born in West Collingswood, New Jersey on December 12, 191
      8, the son of Leslie B. and Marguerite Kerwin Moxon.
      He was reared primarily in Philadelphia and received his medical degree f
      rom the University of Pennsylvania in 1943. He completed his residency a
      t the US Naval Hospital in Philadelphia and began his 20 year service i
      n the US Navy.
      On March 4, 1944 Bob married Barbara M. Wischan in Philadelphia and soo
      n after was assigned to a beachmaster unit with Amphibious Forces durin
      g the invasion of Okinawa. He served as the ship?s doctor on the USS Pi
      edmont during the occupation of Japan.
      After the War he attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate Schoo
      l of Medicine and became Board certified in internal medicine in 1952 a
      nd recertified in 1974. He was elected a Fellow of the American College o
      f Physicians in 1957.
      During the remainder of his Navy career, he served on the USS Grand Can
      yon with the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, as Chief of Outpatient S
      ervice at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii and Chief of Medical Service a
      t the Naval Hospitals in Annapolis, Maryland and Portsmouth, Virginia.
      Retiring from the Navy with the rank of Captain in 1963 he became Direc
      tor of Medical Education at Columbia Hospital, and in 1966 joined the l
      ate Dr. Izard Josey the practice of internal medicine, later with the l
      ate Dr. James Owens and Dr. J. Richard Allison, III, retiring in 1987. H
      e was a gentle, caring and dedicated doctor - much loved and respected b
      y his patients.
      He was a member of AMA, SC Medical Society, Columbia Medical Society an
      d the Torch Club.
      After retiring he served as consultant in internal medicine for Medicar
      e utilization in the South Carolina Professional Review Organization, a
      s an expert witness for Social Security Disability, and taught health t
      opics at the Columbia Shepherd?s Center, where he was a member of its B
      oard of Directors.
