  • Name Sapp
    Born circa 1760
    Gender Male
    Died
    Notes
    • Forrest Jackson wrote May 9, 2010 "there were about 5 different Sapp families living in Burke Co., GA around 1800 ..." and on the tenth, he wrote "I suspect that William Sapp, who lived 3 doors down from Eliza Sapp in the 1830 Census could be her father???? Got to have proof though."

mtDNA tests show that the maternal lines of both Forrest Jackson and Tom Cloud are haplogroup H1m, with both having dead-end maternal ancestors with SAPP surname and both being born in Burke county, GA at about the same time.  This is substantial proof that Mary and Eliza are sisters.  Their mother and her mother, and all their maternal ancestors will also be in haplogroup H1m.

      * (mtDNA is passed from mothers to their children, which allows the mtDNA haplogroup to identify the maternal line.  Since a woman's surname typically changes with each generation, the fact that (1) both men have the same mtDNA haplogroup, (2) they share the SAPP surname on their maternal line and both their SAPP ancestors (3) lived in the same place and (4) were born about the same time, is convincing proof that they are sisters.)
