David J. Dave Nance
NEWPORT David J. Dave Nance, 80, of Newport died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at North Little Rock.
He was born April 16, 1928, at Beedeville, the son of David J. Sr. and Maggie Bigham Nance. He married Miss Fran McCoy on July 31, 1948.
Mr. Nance was a switchman for the railroad and retired from the trucking industry. He was also owner of Daves Super Hi-Test Service Station for many years. Mr. Nance was a member of Holden Avenue Church of Christ and a 1948 graduate of Newport High School. He loved baseball and enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren play ball.
Mr. Nance was preceded in death by an infant son, Marcus Franklin Nance, in 1953; four brothers, J.W. Nance, Jock Nance, Jake Nance and O.H. Nance; three sisters, Ollie Pulley, Lottie Robinson and Ruby McFadden; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fran McCoy Nance; three daughters, Kathy Nance Cloud of Bartlett, Tenn., Karen Nance Clay and husband Patrick of Olive Branch, Miss., and Sherri Nance Shelby and husband David of Bartlett; six grandchildren, Danny Ryan Cloud, Julie Frances Stoker Roberson and husband Jason, Jana Elizabeth Stoker, David Rodney Cloud, Charli Nicole Shelby and David Brayden Shelby; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Kennedy Burt and Samuel David Jace Roberson; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a special niece and caregiver, Peggy Brown McKee of Cabot.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holden Avenue Church of Christ with Glenn Knabe officiating and Mark Taylor assisting. Interment will be in Eightmile Cemetery.
Visitation is this evening from 6-8.
Pallbearers will be Arthur David Nance, Pat McCoy, Stan McKee, Matt McCoy, Don Washam IV, Jerry Bullard, Jessie McCoy and Hugh Bullard.
Graveside pallbearers will be Ryan Cloud, Rodney Cloud, Brayden Shelby, David Shelby, Pat Clay, Jason Roberson and Jason Bius.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. McMinn, Raymond Davis, John Brown, Charlie McKee, Frank McCoy, Ronnie McCoy, James McCoy, Danny Cloud, Steve Stoker and Don Washam III.
Arrangements are by Jacksons Newport Funeral Home.
