Funeral Services For Mrs. Mary Cloud
Were Held From the E.J. Robertson Funeral Home, Chula.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cloud were held from the Robertson Funeral Home in Chula Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. George E. Vertrees. Miss Era Rains and Mrs. Nera Schmidtz sang "Your Roses May Have Thorns" and "When They Ring Those Golden Bells." Mrs. Christine Robertson was the accompanist.
Pallbearers were Claude Tharp, Harold White John Tharp, Norman Thieme, Raymond Sargent and Harry Sargent. Flower girls were Mrs. Mary Donoho, Miss Margaret Tharp, Mrs. Marjorie Brobst, Mrs. Virginia Hoyt, Miss Ethel Sartent and Mrs Lelia Singleton.
Interment was in Mount Olive cemetery.
Mary Elizabeth Sampson was born Oct. 27, 1861 near Cantleton, Indiana. She was a daughter of W.R. and Frances Elizabeth Sampson. She was the youngest and last survivor of a family of fifteen children.
When a small child she moved with her parents to Central Illinois and settled in Moultrie County. Here she was married to William Freeland Cloud on March 4, 1880. They moved to Missouri about 1887.
They became the parents of ten children, six of whom are living. They include Mrs. T.B. England of North Kansas City, Mrs. George Chapman, Vermillion, Kansas, Mrs. Arthur Sargent, Meadville, Mrs. Harvey Tharp, Chula, Ira Cloud, Kansas City, and Ray Cloud, Purdin. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Besides raising her own family she reared two of her grandchildren, Mrs. Dorothy Thieme and Harold White.
Her husband preceded her in death April 26, 1040, a month after they had celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Early in life she joined the Methodist church and was a loyal and faithful member until her death. She was a loving friends (sic) to all who knew her. She departed this life March 1, 1948 at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 3 days.
