William Clark and Mary (Polly) Tilley were married in Roane Co, TN June 18th, 1840. William was 18 and Mary 17 years old on 1850 Census. In the Roane Co, TN Court Minutes, Bk R, p. 514, Feb 6th, 1860, William Clark and wife Mary are listed as heirs of John Tilley (along with Jeremiah, William and Edward Tilley and Mary and Martha Lacey, daughters of Nancy Tilley Lacey (John), deceased. In 1873, E.T. (Edward) Tilley & wife sold their portion of John Tilley's land to William Clark. William Clark d. Aug 19, 1884 and Mary Jul 29, 1897. Both are buried in Clark-Dry Fork Cemetery, Roane County, TN. My conclusion is that William Clark was married ONLY to Mary Tilley, dau of John and Mary Tilley.
I believe the marriage of a John Tilley to Mary Cloud in 1806 is this John Tilley. John and the Cloud family seemed to move together from Stokes Co, NC to Roane Co, TN. John Tilley was in Roane Co by 1829 by Stokes Deed Bk 9, p. 454. Edward (Edmon), the 5th child was born in NC in 1824, and the next child, William, was born in TN in 1829. By the 1850 Census, John Tilley was b. abt 1775 and Mary was b. abt 1787. Mary (Polly) Tilley is on the 1870 Census living with William & Mary Clark. I have not found her death. There were unmarked stones in the Clark-Dry Fork Cemetery, but neither the Roane County Genealogical Society's survey nor mine found them there.
