    • His middle name is transcribed from his WW-I draft registration.  The "Resti" is clear but the last letter is not.  It looks like it could be "Restic".
      Obituary:
      Samuel R. Carter
      Funeral services for Samuel Carter, 36, of 757 Pecan, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange with Rev. Marvin Leech, retired Baptist minister, officiating, assisted by Eric Lovell, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
      Mr. Carter died at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cox Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
      Born Jan. 1, 1888, in Comanche County, Mr. Carter married Pearl Hendrix May 2, 1909, in Comanche.  She died in 1966.
      He farmed in Comanche until 1938 when he moved to Abilene.
      He was a self-employed ice cream vendor, using a horse and buggy and later a jeep.  He retired in 1958.  He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
      Survivors include two sons, Gordon of 773 Pecan and Zill of Garden Grove, Calif.; a daughter, Rosemond Carter of 757 Pecan; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Hendrix of Comanche; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
