Mrs. Eugenia Elizabeth Reynolds Cloud
Resident of Redwood City
Age 102, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2009 in Redwood City, CA.
Mrs. Cloud was born on October 29, 1906 in Santa Cruz, CA. She was the only child of Claire Cummings and Frederick Reynolds. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Roy N. Cloud and daughter Elizabeth Jean Steele. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Meribah Crowley of Greenwich, CT; and 5 granddaughters: Susan McClellan, who she raised, and was her loving caregiver in her later years; Alison Crowley of Los Angeles, CA; Susie Kelly of Ridgefield, CT; Samantha Anderlind of Riverside, CT; Meghan Dorton of San Clemente, CA and 7 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cloud, a third generation Californian, graduated from San Jose High School and received her teaching certificate from San Jose State University. Besides her devotion to teaching elementary school and music, her first love was the stage, where she trained to be an opera singer and sang "Carmen" in San Jose. She also traveled the country in the 1920's, during the golden age of vaudeville, as a company member of singers and dancers in the famed "Fanchon and Marco" shows.
As a proud resident of Redwood City for the past 65 years, she was active with the Red Cross, an honorary life member of the PTA, the Tuberculosis Assoc, Planned Parenthood and the Historic Resource Archives Committee of Redwood City. The volunteer work closest to her heart was the restoration of the Union Cemetery, where she was instrumental in making it an historical landmark. Most recently, she was celebrated in Spectrum Magazine's November 2005 issue in the cover story "The Lady is a Champ," featuring all of her volunteer efforts in Redwood City.
She also had a true passion for genealogy. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Mayflower Society. She was a direct descendant of Governor William Bradford, the first Governor of Massachusetts and recorder of the journal for the Mayflower. She was also a proud descendant of the pioneering Roundtree family of Santa Cruz, CA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to: The Historic Union Cemetery Assoc Inc., PO Box 61003, Redwood City, CA 94061. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1106 Alameda De Las Pulgas (corner of Alameda and Brittan) in San Carlos.
