      ISOM CLOUD
(By Harvey E. Hocker, Tulsa, OK)
A great-great-great-grandfather on my mother's side was Isom Cloud. According to the 1850 census, he was born in North Carolina in 1774. The 1810 federal census reflects an Ishom (sic) Cloud living in Rockingham County, North Carolina.
The next record of Isom is in Hamilton County (Noblesville), Indiana in 1830, at which time he headed a household consisting of himself, a wife, five boys and two girls.
Isom's age is given as 76 in 1850, when be is also shown to be a grocer in Noblesville and the husband of Francis Cloud. However, in the 1830 census, his age is thrown into the category of 40-50, which would yield a birth date no earlier than 1780. Francis' age is given as 70 in 1850 and this corresponds to a birth year of 1780, give or take a year. Of the children born to Isom (and Francis, if she was the mother of any or all of his children), two children were born prior to 1815 and their names are unknown to me, although they apparently were born in North Carolina. Next lineage was my great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Cloud, who was born in 1815 in North Carolina; followed by John Cloud born 1817, North Carolina (Tennessee); James Cloud born 1822, Indiana; Peter Cloud born 1825, Indiana; Jane Cloud born 1828, Indiana; and lastly, Isom (Jr.) born 1829, Indiana.
Apparently Francis died between 1850 and 1860, since Isom Sr. married Margaret Horn, 29 March 1860.
Isom Cloud died in Noblesville, Indiana, 24 January 1876, just two months short of his 97th birthday. He had come to Indiana (Jefferson County) in 1823 from North Carolina.

      THE NOBLESVILLE LEDGER
Noblesville Ind., Friday, January 28, 1876
ISOM CLOUD, one of the pioneers of Hamilton county, died at his residence in this vicinity on Monday last. Mr. Cloud came to this county at an early day, endured the hardships of a pioneer, and died at the advanced age of ninety-seven years; at least he would have been ninety-seven had he lived until March. He raised a numerous family of sons and daughters, most of whom survive him, and with a host of other friends, mourn his loss. Deceased was probably the oldest man in the county. Since writing the above we learn from a friend that Mr. Cloud was a native of North Carolina, and came to Indiana fifty-three years ago. He first settled in Jefferson county, on the Ohio river, near Madison, where he remained for a period of three years. From thence he moved to Marion county, where he resided five years, when he removed to this county, settling on Fall creek, and continued a citizen until his death. He had been a member of church for forty-three years.

find George in 1880 -- but which family does he belong to?
The census says his father was b. NC, which implies Samuel or George.
