  Notes	The name Broaddus is said to be a contraction of Broadhurst. The name in America is written by some with one "d" but by most with two. Edward Broaddus emigrated from Wales in the early part of the eighteenth century and settled on Gwynn's Island, in the Pianki-Tank River, near its junction with the Rappahannock. In 1715 he moved to Caroline County (then King and Queen), where he resided till his death. He was twice married.
