- Lois Whisenant Fowler Cloud was an artist and taught and supported herself with her painting. My children called her Grandmother Flower instead of Fowler. She was the youngest of seven children and the last to pass away.
Both of Lois' grandfathers were pastors, trained in the old fire and brimstone school of theology. Lois' mother was strictly a "Southern Lady." Lois learned from her mother to be fully groomed early each day, even before preparing breakfast for the family. Lois' daughter Lavonne remembers that 99 percent of the time when she asked her grandfather (Lois' father) a question, it was answered by the Bible. He would then give Lavonne the scripture reference and tell her to go look up the answer. This is clear testimony to the high biblical character of Lois' parents.
Lois was a very hardworking lady. Lois learned art at an early age. Her family has artwork drawn and painted by Lois as early as age ten or 11. Later in life, Lois would teach art at the School of Mines at Socorro, NM and the Heaton School in Greeley. Art was Lois' favorite activity. It was only in the later years of life when she could no longer paint that she began to decline. Lois truly loved art
Lois married John H. Cloud, Sr. Apr. 6, 1935 at Socorro. Two years later a daughter, Lethia Lavonne Cloud was born followed by the birth of a son, John H. Cloud, Jr.
Over the years, the family moved several times due to John's employment
John, Sr. died in 1955 leaving Lois a widow at the young age of 42. Following her husband's death, Lois' mother and dad moved in with the family where Lois faithfully cared for them until their deaths in the 1960s.
In 1961, Lois moved to Greeley where she lived until her move to Wray in the mid-1980s. Lois enjoyed going to her son's ranch in Oklahoma to spend time outdoors with the animals. Lois spent the last two years of her life at Renotta and Hillcrest Care Centers in Wray.
Preceding Lois in death were her parents James C. and Lethia Whisenhant, husband John H. Cloud, Sr., sisters Cleo Bragg, Dealva Duke, Mohota Winston and twin sister, Lorel Whisenhant, brothers Wendall Whisenhant and James C. Whisenhant
She is survived by her daughter Lethia Lavonne Jones, son John H. Cloud, Jr., grandsons Richard K Hunter, Jr., Charlie H. Hunter and Casey Cloud, granddaughters Susan Engler, Sandra Solis and Stacey Robbins, numerous great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 1 at First Southern Baptist Church in Wray with Pastor Gary Fore officiating.
