- Dardenelle and Aunt Hazel (August and September, 1997) said that grandp
a Bill was a cotton gin man, that Jake worked in the gin for him and th
at grandpa Bill had hired servants. Jake met Lizzie while she was work
ing in his house.
Aunt Hazel said (11-4-1997) that "dad said Center was no place to raise k
ids and moved six miles to River Bend just across the river from Ada". T
hey lived there for a few years, dad working with machinery in a cotton g
in, and then moved on to Konawa, about 1909, because dad wanted a count
ry life with his family.

There was a two year drought in Konawa and they lost everything but one c
ow. Jake got an opportunity to share crop in Albion so they moved ther
e. Hazel and Gail Boynton bought them a place there (Gail went to a "t
ax title" land auction and bid on the 40 acres for 25 cents an acre and g
ot it for $7.50.) Jake built a log house that they lived in.
Hazel wrote that the entries in the family Bible were made by Shorty, a
s momma couldn't write very well. "Shorty wrote the record and were mo
stly of our family, for she's like me, knew little of family traditions
." Just before she died, Shorty gave the family Bible to George Napier
's wife, Glenda.
Dardenelle said he'd heard that grandma Cloud's grandfather Seybold ser
ved in the civil war (i.e. David Seybold).
