Jeremiah & Elizabeth M. Cloud

of Austin county, Texas;
(formerly of Twiggs county, Georgia and Montgomery county, Alabama).

    According to his obituary, Jeremiah Cloud was born in 1784 in Twiggs county, Georgia.  According to the same source, Jeremiah and Elizabeth married about 1801 in Georgia.  Little is known of Elizabeth, who she is or where she came from.  Records of her date of birth indicate she was born between 1784 and 1786 and the 1860 census says she was born in Georgia.
    Twiggs county was not formed until after Jeremiah was born, and the boundaries of that area moved several times during that period.  There is also a reference to his family having been in South Carolina at one time.  Click here to view the Jeremiah Clues page.
    Jeremiah moved his family to Alabama in 1816, shortly after the Creek cession of 1814.  Texas won its independence from Mexico in 1836 and he moved again, settling in Austin county in 1837.  They had nine children, five born in Georgia and the last four born in Alabama.  All of their children, save their eldest, William, moved to Texas from Alabama.  Click here to read the Alabama Heritage Book submission for their family.
    The descendants of Jeremiah and Elizabeth Cloud have been searching for generations to discover who their parents were.  If you are one of their descendants, please join us.  You might be able to provide a key piece of evidence and not even know it.
    The Cloud DNA Project has shed exciting new light on this quest, though it is limited to a Y-chromosome study only (i.e. the male line only).  If you are a male with the Cloud surname, we invite you to join the Project, and especially if you are a descendant of "our" Jeremiah and Elizabeth Cloud.
    Collateral Surnames for Jeremiah and Elizabeth's children and grandchildren:  BATEMAN, BOYD, BURT, CALVERT, CARTER (2), CLOYD, COBB, CONNELLY (2), DAY, EWING, FAISON, FARR, FRANCIS, FRIZZLE, GATES, GRIFFIN, HENDERSON, HINDS, JACKSON (2), KELTON (2), KINCHEN, MANNING (2), McCOY, McDADE (2), MERCHANT, PRATT, PUGH, ROGERS, ROWE, RUTHERFORD, SESSIONS, SNELL, SPEARE, SPRINGER, WALL, WOOD.

NOTICE !

The Cloud DNA Project has given us valuable clues to the ancestry of Jeremiah Cloud.  The results indicate he is from the same line as John Cloud, R.S. of Louisiana, perhaps a brother or a cousin.  (See the dna pedigree groupings here.)
   A best guess at this time would be to research John's father, William Cloud, or his brothers.
